swine flu H1N1 news updates in Thailand
Compensations : “If you or your child has a reaction to the vaccine, your ability to sue is limited by law“
– from CDC VIS about H1H1 vaccine
Here is recent article from Thailand : GPO: H1N1 vaccines low stability (Oct 22)
The Government Pharmaceutical Organization (GPO) is trying to fix the problem of low stability of H1N1 vaccines while assuring that 2 million doses of the vaccines will arrive in Thailand in December.
GPO Board Chairperson MD Vichai Chokewiwat said research on H1N1 vaccines had seen much progress and 10 lots of them had been produced so far. However, he said the vaccines’ stability was still low and a virus contamination analysis was needed before human trials were conducted. MD Vichai said the vaccines must be 100% safe before they were used with humans and therefore no exact date could be set for their availability.
The GPO chairperson said there was no need for Thailand to reduce its demand for H1N1 vaccines since the organization had bought 3 million dose.
huh? as I recall mostly news reports indicate number 2 mln, not 3 ?
there is not so much info about GPO company – apart from the fact that it was owned by government and in 2006 was privatized. here is a bit more of its history, as well as quite extensive analysis of Pharma industry in Thailand in general although as I see that information in it is a bit outdated already, nevertheless, the assessment I guess is still same :
“Overall, Thailand is unable to achieve self-reliant pharmaceutical production… The lack of domestic pharmaceutical production leads to high dependency on other countries regarding technology, finished drugs, and medicinal active ingredients. This means that the healthcare service in Thailand will face difficulties, especially when situations of crisis occur, such as during conflict or war, in cases of epidemic, or following natural disasters like earthquakes or tsunami.“
here is the fresh Update about alleged numbers of swine infected in Thailand : reportedly, there are already 6 mln, only on Sep 24 was reported 5mln – while WHO website still shows … only 28’000 ! who is lying ? also, merely few days ago it was mentioned estimated 15mln people to get infected in the “second wave”, but now stakes grown:
A third of the 65 million population could eventually be infected...
that is 22mln ! seems like Thai Media (and / or Health Ministry?) have very wild imagination ?
by the way, a very curious thing: on WHO website for SEA region there are 11 countries listed, and ALL of those links work (even N Korea and Burma) except … Thailand. isn’t it strange ? well, alright, I assume it is merely a lost hosting issue, since it is apparently possible to access page Thailand page from global WHO website, although it doesn’t have its own domain name but looks more like a page/ section there rather than a separate its own website. however most of the links lead to outdated pages and some (as pdf files in OVERVIEW) do not open at all.
anyway … reading on :
pre-schoolers aged up to five were expected to be hardest hit by the virus…
health authorities should focus on ways to protect an estimated 2 million infants from catching the disease...
will they administer to them those 2 mln already ordered vaccines ? or pregnant women, or older kids 1-5 y.o. ? alright, reading further :
It was believed [this is a keyword 😉 well, “BELIEF” is quite reliable, no doubt !] 6 million Thai people had contracted the flu and developed immunity against it ...
well that explains it then (such a difference with WHO data : 6mln – 28’000 = 5’972 mln), but of course – how couldn’t I figure it out myself ! now I get it, thanks to good Thai reporters : 6 mln got infected, then developed immunity, and perhaps only 28’000 now still with virus, as WHO says ? I start to see the logic : if in first 6 months it was 6 mln of infected, then in next 2 months naturally it should be … 15 mln (or 22mln?) ! 😀 and hey, here are the good news, actually there are more than 2mln vaccines coming soon :
The Disease Control Department has ordered a total of 5 million doses of H1N1 vaccine...
well, yeah, that makes sense : if 15-22mln are planned I mean estimated to get infected – then naturally 2mln vaccines are not enough, should be 5 mln at least ! 😉
to other 10-17mln there are huge piles of Oseltamivir made ready, should be more than enough for all ! (see article below)
and here are the top guidelines :
of the two million doses of vaccine ordered from France [aha, that means not from China after all, then I guess it must be from Sanofi-Pasteur], the first one million doses will arrive in December. On the distribution of the vaccine, priorities will be given to public health staff, pregnant women, people weighing more than 100 kilogrammes, people aged below six months and above 64 years, and those with brain problems. [that’s a good news for reporters from Nation & BP newspapers to be in such a privileged category ! 😀 ]
well, now the picture is getting clearer : if order is indeed from France, then it is most likely Sanofi-Pasteur of the Sanofi-aventis “the world’s 3rd largest pharmaceutical company” (behind Pfizer and GlaxoSmithKline), major stake-holders in it are oil company Total_S.A. and well famous cosmetics company L’Oréal.
the vaccine brand they sell is Fluzone that “comes in 3 versions that are thimerosal-free”, BUT “5cc multi-use vial does contain thimerosal“.
curious information :
“the influenza A (H1N1) 2009 vaccine that sanofi pasteur is producing is owned by US government who is solely responsible for decisions regarding the distribution of this vaccine.“
so, in other words, actually Thailand has purchased it from US, not France – although it is said in the article “ordered from France” – I guess merely supplied from France.
The use of Fluzone in infants less than 6 months of age is not recommended.
Immunization with Fluzone may not protect 100% of susceptible individuals.
ok, let’s see further :
1) 3. DOSAGE FORMS AND STRENGTHS
Multi-dose vial, 5 mL, contains thimerosal [“The compound is being phased out from routine childhood vaccines in the United States, the European Union, and a few other countries“], a mercury (approx. 49% by weight !) derivative,
added as a preservative. Each 0.5 mL dose contains 25 micrograms (mcg) mercury.
2) 5.1. Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS) !
3) 5.4. Limitations of Vaccine Effectiveness :
Vaccination with Influenza A (H1N1) 2009 Monovalent Vaccine may not protect all recipients
4) read : 6. ADVERSE REACTIONS – too many of them listed there to quote her all !
5) 8. USE IN SPECIFIC POPULATIONS :
Pregnancy Category C: Animal reproduction studies have not been conducted with Influenza A (H1N1) 2009 Monovalent Vaccine or Fluzone vaccine. It is also not known whether these vaccines can cause fetal harm when administered to a pregnant woman or can affect reproduction capacity. Influenza A(H1N1) 2009 Monovalent Vaccine should be given to a pregnant woman only if clearly needed.
Nursing Mothers It is not known whether Influenza A (H1N1) 2009 Monovalent Vaccine or Fluzone vaccine is excreted in human milk. Because many drugs are excretedin human milk, caution should be exercised when this vaccine is administered to a nursing woman.
Pediatric Use Safety and effectiveness in pediatric subjects below the age of 6 months have not been established
[so many things are “not known“, huh?! somehow I get the feeling that actually it IS known, but covered up !]
6) 11. Description Each 0.5 mL dose may contain residual amounts of formaldehyde [Quote : “In humans, it is known to cause a number of detrimental effects and there is limited evidence of a carcinogenic effect“] (not more than 100 mcg)
7) 13. NON-CLINICAL TOXICOLOGY Neither Fluzone vaccine nor Influenza A (H1N1) 2009 Monovalent Vaccine have been evaluated for carcinogenic or mutagenic potential, or for impairment of fertility. [again “Unknown” !]
so many “Unknown” things. now, here is the “Vaccine Information Statement (VIS) for Inactivated 2009 H1N1 Influenza Vaccine” (issued by CDC, based on VIS website) – there is general info, which somehow includes part that it is recommended for pregnant women. kids and teens. then, here starts the interesting part:
1) 4. Federal government is providing this vaccine for receipt on a voluntary basis.
However, state law or employers may require vaccination for certain person.
2) the most interesting are : 7. Reactions (basically – contact your doctor. and what doctor would do ?) and 8. Compensations : “If you or your child has a reaction to the vaccine, your ability to sue is limited by law“
LIMITED BY LAW ! this is in US, where there are all sorts of laws. what to speak about Thailand or other SEA countries, where usually there are NON any of such laws, or they are infantile or crippled, and anyway, with all the corruption in “law” ?! in other words: if anything happens – you’re on your own !
well, all this attitude is not at all surprising, taking into consideration that the company which has developed Thimerosal is Eli Lilly, reportedly “been involved in numerous controversies, including political and medical ethics controversies” and huge lawsuits, particularly demanding attention is the one related to exactly Thimerosal – aka “Eli Lilly Protection Act” affair under Bush. curiously, both Bushes are known to be involved in Elly, Papa Bush even once (1977-1979) used to be one of its Board directors and then later keeping close ties with them :
Bush actively lobbied both within and without the Reagan Administration as Vice President in 1981 to permit drug companies to sell obsolete or especially domestically-banned substances to Third World countries… In 1982, Bush was personally ordered to stop lobbying the IRS on behalf of the drug companies by the U.S. Supreme Court. Bush stopped lobbying, but pharmaceutical interests still received a 23% additional tax break for their companies in Puerto Rico, who made these obsolete or banned American drugs for sale to Third World countries.
well, looks like this continues even after both Bushes are no longer Presidents: while Thimerosal is banned in US and UK, apparently it is still being pushed to Third World countries, this time at a GIGANTIC scale ! because surely with all the pressure from WHO (which has a special UN mandate over any government!), with HUGE fear mongering campaign by MSM, haste, postponement of tests (which are anyway run with help or practically by CDC here) and TOTAL absence of information – it would be pretty easy to push to countries as Thailand and others in Asia the vaccines with Thimerosal !
here are few very evident examples :
Activists rap Big Pharma on drugs claim – mentions that “Pharmaceutical giants had lobbied the government to adopt Anti-Counterfeit Trade Agreement and this could lead to an amendment of the customs law and seizure of generic drugs and raw materials unregistered with the FDA, she said. If Thailand agrees, its policy allowing compulsory licences to bypass drug patents could be threatened” – in other words, there is a huge behind the scenes game going on, which practically is aimed to 1) ensure that Thailand doesn’t manufacture drugs locally; 2) thus the ONLY way would be to buy from those giant companies ! and most likely – those very “obsolete or banned drugs” as Thimerosal. why? because it is too costly to fight countless lawsuits in US (or Europe), but in Third World countries as Thailand certainly is, it is like a haven ! here is related article, very realistic and insightful (mind you, this NOT some expats rant Forum, but a lawyers website !) : Patient Rights in Thailand ‘s Booming Medical Tourism Industry – which basically illustrates that practically there are NON appropriate acting laws here for a patient to get compensation from hospital / doctor in case of any serious damage – and the story mentioned is of FOREIGNER patient, who CAN AFFORD paying court case fees, yet even money would not help it. then what to speak about millions of Thai peasants, poor folks as farmers, workers etc – especially during this ongoing economic crisis !
here is another examples of Big Pharma’s pushy hand:
another news report from Thailand yesterday :
MCOT (TNA – Thai news agency, Nov 3) reports: GPO: Anti-flu drug ready for new round of A(H1N1) flu
“Thailand’s Government Pharmaceutical Organisation (GPO) and hospitals nationwide have stockpiled some 35 million capsules of the anti-flu drug ‘Oseltamivir’ for a possible second round of A(H1N1) virus outbreak … the raw materials are available to produce a new lot of additional medication of 40 million capsules… In addition, the GPO has stored lots of hand wash gel and sanitary masks to prevent the upcoming wave of Influenza Type A (H1N1) spread… “
well, at least this drug is reportedly not so bad, comparing to the already ordered inactivated “vaccines” (which most likely would contain mercury and squalane).
“not bad” in the sense that it would not potentially cause as severe side-effects, although there are facts that it does have its own side-effects , MANY of them :
“nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, and headache. Rare ADRs include: hepatitis and elevated liver enzymes, rash, allergic reactions including anaphylaxis, and Stevens-Johnson syndrome… Various other ADRs have been reported in post-marketing surveillance including: toxic epidermal necrolysis, cardiac arrhythmia, seizure, confusion, aggravation of diabetes, and haemorrhagic colitis…
There are concerns that oseltamivir may cause dangerous psychological, neuropsychiatric side effects including self harm in some users. These dangerous side effects occur more commonly in children than in adults.
In March 2007, Japan’s Health Ministry warned that oseltamivir should not be given to those aged 10 to 19. The Ministry had previously decided, in May 2004, to change the literature accompanying oseltamivir to include neurological and psychological disorders as possible adverse effects, including: impaired consciousness, abnormal behavior, and hallucinations. According to Japan’s Health Ministry, between 2004 and March 2007, fifteen people aged 10 to 19 have been injured or killed by jumps or fallen from buildings after taking oseltamivir, and one 17-year-old died after he jumped in front of a truck.
To determine whether to lift the 2007 ban, a research team from the Japanese Health, Labour and Welfare Ministry studied 10,000 children under the age of 18 who had been diagnosed with influenza since 2006. The study was finalized in April 2009. Taking into account all degrees of abnormal behavior, including minor behavioral problems such as incoherent speech, the study found that children who took oseltamivir were 54 percent more likely to exhibit abnormal behavior than those who did not take the drug…
In November 2006, the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) amended the warning label to include the possible side effects of delirium, hallucinations, or other related behavior…
Mutagenesis, Cell Transformation, Impairment of Fertility, and Carcinogenesis
Although found to be non-mutagenic in the Ames Test and the mouse micronucleus test, Tamiflu tested positive in the Syrian Hamster Embryo (SHE) cell transformation test. [nothing mentioned about human tests at all !] “
and the funny thing is, there is even no 100% assurance that it would help at all with swine flu ! because for example for seasonable H1N1 it is already no longer effective.
notice also curious relation between this Tamiflu product has relations to Donald Rumsfeld and to China – because its main component is extracted from Chinese star anise seeds, which are grown only in 4 provinces of China (and 1 province of Vietnam), and some numbers :
Federal disclosure forms indicate that Rumsfeld owns between USD$5 million and USD$25 million in Gilead stock. The rise in Gilead’s share prices from USD$35 to USD$57 per share will have added between USD$2.5 million to USD$15.5 million to Rumsfeld’s net worth. In November 2005, George W. Bush urged Congress to pass $7.1 billion in emergency funding to prepare for the possible bird flu pandemic, of which one billion is solely dedicated to the purchase, and distribution of Tamiflu.
another yet MORE curious fact is, that another similar effective product Relenza (Zanamivir), competitor of Tamiflu, does NOT have any such side-effects!
“has not been known to cause toxic effects, does not spread around through the
body’s systemic circulation and shows no signs of viral resistance from any flu
According to the CDC, Tamiflu, zanamivir’s main competitor, is not as effective at treating the Influenza viruses as zanamivir, especially in H1N1 Seasonal Flu. In Fact, tests showed that 99.6% of the tested strains of seasonal H1N1 flu and 0.5% of 2009 pandemic flu were resistant to Tamiflu while there have been absolutely zero flu samples seasonal or pandemic that show any resistance to zanamivir
Zanamivir is specifically for the treatment of infections caused by Influenza virus A and Influenzavirus B
Recently, the reported oseltamivir-resistance H5N1 virus neuraminidase still retaining susceptibility to zanamivir indicates that the structure of zanamivir has some advantages over oseltamivir in binding to the active pocket of H5N1 neuraminidase“
however mysteriously it is Tamiflu which is so aggressively marketed and stockpiled ! any “conspiracy theory” at play ? 😉 😀
I mean – WHY would Thailand rather buy / produce 35 mln of Oseltamivir, which is apparently quite toxic and LESS effective, if there is an alternative product, much more safe and much more effective ?! and it is more easily available than another effective drug Peramivir (Laninamivir is only being developed)
